History:

During my junior year of high school (1997-1998), I won an essay contest with the local electric cooperative. One female and one male winner from each coop won a trip to Washington DC in the summer for a week long stay for this national coop deal with all the states represented (even Hawaii). My trip was in June 2008 and was a very memorable trip, first from catching a stomach bug and being sick on a night long bus ride from Illinois to Pennsylvania and then to DC to whirlwind tour of DC (including a play at Ford's theater and a brunch at the Saudi Arabian embassy) to returning home the day my uncle passed away... Needless to say, I have a lot of memories wrapped up in that trip and I took pictures.

During my senior year, I was the only student in my class that wanted to take an art class and I arranged to take my art class with the 7th graders. In amongst helping the teacher with the class, I worked on my own projects. I took one of the pictures from my memorable trip and turned it into a drawing.

Drawing wise, I mainly stick to pencil with a focus on faces. However, I stepped out of my comfort zone and did a outside building picture in color. It is one of the few color drawings I've ever completed.

Gadsby's Tavern is located in Alexandria, Virginia and is one of the locations we ate on that memorable trip. Their website is linked below if you want to know more about the location...

Thanks... and that's cool! :-)

I was still recovering from my little stomach bout the day I ate there, so I don't think I ate much, but the atmosphere was nice. :-)

Wow, this is beautiful! I had no clue you could draw like that! *plots future art work for you*

This is really inspiring as well - Gadsby's looks exactly like the kind of place I can see Tony take Gibbs for a "manly non-date". :)

I was thinking it would make a good setting for Gibbs and Tony too... Hee!

And thanks... It's been a while since I actually drew instead of using the computer. I used to draw a lot (especially high school). Did mostly face drawings in pencil. I have a color painting of a young indian (American Indian that is) in full headdress that I might try to sell. This one is working it seems... I also have some duplicate prints in 8x10 in black and white from some of my Europe photos that I might try to sell outright... see if those go over. I have to other copies hanging in my room. :-)
