NCIS Word Association v 2.0

In my previous NCIS Word Association I wasn't happy with the choices I had for Tony. I just couldn't think of any that night. So now I'm back with what I think is a better selection for Tony.

Poll #1376578 NCIS Word Association v 2.0

Tony DiNozzo

Big D, Little i, Big N, Little ozzo
17(48.6%)
Not Gibbs
1(2.9%)
Movies
7(20.0%)
I Smiled
10(28.6%)

Also, does anyone know if Kate ever called Gibbs Boss? I've been racking my brain and I can really only think of her calling him Gibbs.

Also, there are only 11 7 songs left to guess on my MP3 Guessing Game.

Come to think of it, I can't remember her calling him Boss, only Gibbs

I know... it's something that just struck me all the sudden. Does Ziva for that matter? Is it just Tony and McGee and sometimes Abby?

McGee definitely does. Abby calls him 'Bossman' more than Boss I think....

Can't say about Ziva either. I suppose could look over the transcripts

Yeah, that's what I was thinking about Abby...

It's looking more like it's the boy thing... Burley, Tony, McGee, Langer...

What was the other member on the new team this year's name? I don't remember what he called Gibbs. Lee and Jardeine called him Gibbs I think.

Daniel T. Keating

Hmm... I can't remember if he used boss or not.

Well, I tend to think "Hilarious, but needs a hug" for Tony. Picked "Big D, Little i, Big N, Little ozzo" because every time I write his name, I think about that moment.

As for Kate, I don't really think she did, come to think of it, but I wouldn't be surprised if I'm wrong, either. If not for Langer and Burley, etc, I'd say it was just one of Tony's habits that McGee picked up. (Well, and the overdone Boss/Probie with Franks and Gibbs. Yay, Franks. /sarcasm)

The difference with Gibbs and Tony I like between Gibbs and Franks or Tony and McGee is that Tony isn't Probie to Gibbs.

Needs a Hug is a good one... I also thought of Senior Field Agent.

Agh, me too. (Though the more I think about it, the more I think that's because he never was a probationary agent - Kate, who came from Similar Things, never was, but McGee, who came from Nerdy Stuff, was. Gibbs, who came from Marines but not law enforcement, was. Lee came from legal and was. Langer came from the FBI and was not a probie. My point here is that it could be more because Tony never was actually a probie, though he doesn't really call McGee Probie all that often.)
I should probably figure out exactly how all that works.

Tony needs lots of hugs, and so does Gibbs, and really, any good slasher can justify it by calling it Efficient! If they hug each other, then Abby can handle the rest of the fandom, and everybody's Hug Quotient is fulfilled!
(oh, the theories I can come up with when procrastinating.)

Actually Langer was originally NCIS and was a probie under Gibbs, that is why he transferred to the FBI

Really? I thought he was FBI all along, and then he showed up at some point... I vaguely remember him in an earlier season... and when he decided to play the agency jumping game, he got Gibbs to vouch for him as he had done well on that case that may or may not have actually happened. (If that makes any sense.)

Gah. I'm terrible at keeping NCIS straight.

He first showed up in season 5 ep 'Tribes' as the FBI agent in charge of the wiretaps on the one mosque. They meet up in Sheppard's office and when Jen looks at him strange when he greets Langer by name he explains that Langer was his probie years ago but couldn't hack it, and Langer said he found the FBI more restful or something.

He was introduced at the end of Season 5. He had worked for Gibbs at NCIS starting out prior to Tony being there (pre-series). Then he jumped ship to the FBI. Then he came back to NCIS. Then he died. Poor guy.

Langer was a Newbie not a Probie. He transferred to the FBI before coming a Probie.

Tony has always seemed more a partner to Gibbs, specially in the early seasons.

Yeah, until he forgot how to pick up women, forgot how to be a good agent, and became the brunt of every humiliating thing ever. And forgot how to dress (even slightly) casually.

Seriously though, I'd say that's because he gets Gibbs more than other people (the gut, the technophobia, all that), and probably also due to how they met, though of course we know nothing about that beyond a smile.

Plus Tony came from a cop background unlike everyone else, that is an environment that is built more on partners, where as Kate was Secret Service (team or individual action, McGee was/is a young agent with tech skills that wasn't a field agent until Gibbs arranged it, and Ziva is an intelligence agent(spy) though tejas and I had an interesting conversation over how little field experiences Ziva actually could have prior to NCIS.

Very nice way to think of things.

It always gets me how Tony is the only one with the cop background. I've been doing research on what NCIS agents have to do to become special agents through FLETC and such... it's kind of enlightening.

Ziva obviously was familiar with interrogation (or torture), organizing ops (remember Kill Ari part 1? That lovely explosion was from her and Jen), and based off her comments about being a control officer ("the good ones are all dead at your [Gibbs'] age"), I'd assume she had plenty of field experience, even if was a bit different from NCIS-style. (Isn't she also referred to more as an assassin than a spy, or is that more fandom? Sometimes I also manage to get that mixed up.) Besides, she would never be a probie, because she's a liason officer and not an agent. Interesting thought though...

I don't believe she ever did, and if she ever did it was probably one of those in unison 'yes Boss' team answers

kaylashay
Apr. 2nd, 2009 03:24 am (UTC)
I'm pretty sure of that too. Although, Kate is the first person to say the word boss (discounting the two JAG eps). Only she was referring to the President at the time.
kateri_e
Apr. 2nd, 2009 03:28 am (UTC)
True, but she also had several minutes of screen time before Tony and Gibbs showed up. Kate was an okay character but was more than a bit full of herself. I don't see her referring to any superior as 'Boss', think about her interactions with Gibbs, not the type of relationship that the moniker 'boss' lends itself towards.
kaylashay
Apr. 2nd, 2009 03:34 am (UTC)
Yeah. And Ziva doesn't refer him to boss that much (if at all). She calls him Gibbs. And I think that's on the same level as Kate in many regards. With Tony... I think it's more a nickname than anything else. If you go the father/son angle vs. slash angle, you can make an argument that Tony uses boss like one would use dad.

With McGee, I think he picked up calling Gibbs boss because of Tony. He learned a lot from Tony and it included calling Gibbs Boss. And when McGee does call Tony boss I think it's because he (in that moment) sees Tony in the way that Tony sees Gibbs.
kateri_e
Apr. 2nd, 2009 03:42 am (UTC)
Yeah, and actually in the first season Gibbs says 'I'm not your boss' the first time Tim calls him that I'm pretty sure, other times he backs off. Once he joins the team in season two he stutters between boss and Gibbs with the odd 'sir'
And Ziva mostly only uses 'Boss' when they do the 'Yes Boss' thing after Gibbs hands out orders.
Since 'Bounce' is the only time that Tony has addressed Gibbs as anything other than 'Boss' I view it as not only a tittle but as a nickname. Can't you just see Gibbs trying to order Detective DiNozzo around and DiNozzo saying 'You're not my boss' and on his first day at NCIS Gibbs saying "Now I'm your boss' and Tony starting to call him that at first as a joke?
