Summary: No matter how hard they tried, Tony and Abby could never find a person that had a Gibbs Number higher than one.
Six Degrees of Leroy Jethro Gibbs. Tony and Abby had started playing the game about six months into Tony's career at NCIS. She was waiting on results for the latest case and he was avoiding the wrath of Gibbs. The older man had been on a rampage the entire case and Tony's head had a bump because of it. As they watched the finger print search run, they began talking about Gibbs and his propensity for always knowing someone. It seemed that the man had a connection of some kind to just about everyone they ran across during a case.
Gibbs stopped short as he strode into autopsy. Ducky was there with a dead body from their latest case, but it was the man next to Ducky that unraveled Gibbs' careful control. He was still openly staring when Ducky glanced up and spoke in a jovial tone, "Jethro, I would like you to meet the consultant we were told to bring in on this case. This is-" Gibbs didn't allow Ducky finish, because he needed no introduction. "Rupert Giles. I know Duck. You," he said with finger point, "follow me." Gibbs headed toward the elevator looking forward to their 'conversation.'
The man had been there for him when he first signed up in the Marine Corp. Now, that same man needed his help and he wanted to be there for him. He had kissed Shannon and told her he would come back when he could. She had let him leave without protest because she understood his belief in Semper Fi. He arrived in Kansas late at night and found a broken man with a crying baby and a quiet toddler. He listened as the man worked through the pain of losing his wife. He helped John Winchester find his way.
First it was Tony's eyesight. He started zoning out and when Gibbs finally brought him back with a head slap, Tony would say he got distracted looking at something that no one else could see. Then Tony started getting small rashes and Ducky couldn't pinpoint a cause for them. The last straw was the night Tony showed up at his house in immense pain because he kept hearing everything that was going on around him. Gibbs did the only thing he could think of; he tracked down Jim Ellison. The former Army Ranger said he would be there with help.
Knowing so many people could get confusing if one wasn't careful. Gibbs knew two James Ellisons and while the former Ranger was a man he could understand and respect, the FBI agent that shared his name was not. Gibbs hated the FBI in general, but Ellison had always rubbed him the wrong way. When he was forced to contact the man in regards to a case that crossed Ellison's Connor case, Gibbs couldn't hold back the growl in his voice. In that moment, he decided to let Tony handle the man when he showed up. Otherwise, Gibbs would kill him.
When they arrived on the scene, Gibbs felt a wave of déjà vu pass over him when he saw the young man sitting in cuffs. He had a cut on his lip and a thin smile of triumph as he watched the Naval officers being checked for injuries. Gibbs knew the man in front of him couldn't be who he was thinking of, but the eyes looking back at him told a different story. He went over to question him and figured he would call Jack O'Neill that night to ask if he had a son Gibbs never knew about.

It's cuz of the magic, y'know. :-)
And now we know why he can leave his door unlocked. :-)
And why he drinks out of cups that have a layer of dust and who knows what else in them... it's all a glamor and we just think they are dirty along with anyone else that sees them.
Ducky knows, of course, there's a reason why he talks to the dead.
McGee is clueless as is Ziva.
Oh. Vance knows. Vance is where he is because *someone* had to keep an eye on Gibbs and Ducky. :-)
Then what we need is Tony treating Gibbs as a case and learning the whole truth...

Also try to repost it as a comment here. Maybe make a new comment so it shows up right. I saw it in my email, but not on the post's comments here.
I liked how you tied in all the different series - the entire thing had me giggling madly. And now I REALLY want to know what happened in that elevator. *cough*
The elevator is evil! Pure evil!!
Glad you liked even if I didn't spell out the relationship. It was fun to write. :-)
I've always pictured Tony as a sentinel. He has heightened senses on the show (eyesight, smell and hearing for sure and he's always touching things, like when he was mesmerized by the fuzz McGee was growing for a beard). And of course Gibbs is his guide. He's the only one that can get him to focus.

"Are you okay? I mean, you don't have a concussion or anything? I really appreciate the help and I would hate to think you got seriously hurt just cause I couldn't handle a couple of seamen." The goth girl with the pig-tails was bouncing in place, her green eyes filled with worry. She gently lifted his face so she could look into his eyes. Oh, yeah. Definitely worth it.
Eliot tried to smile again, "I'm fine, darlin', was more worried about you. Guess I shouldn't have been, you handled yourself beautifully. Who taught you to fight?"
"That would be me, Spencer," A cold and very familiar voice said from the head of the alley. Eliot's body instantly drew itself to attention, the response ingrained.
"Gibbs!" The girl ran over and threw herself into the older man's arms. "I'm so glad to see you! I was waiting for you and these Navy jerks tried to jump me and this guy helped me out! Do you know him?"
Gibbs gave the girl a careful hug and then cupped her cheek, "You okay, Abby?"
Abby shrugged a little, "Yeah, I'm a little rattled but I'll be fine. Like I said, this guy saved me."
They both turned to face Eliot.
"Hey, Gunny. Been a long time," Eliot nodded to his old sergeant.
Gibbs nodded back, "Spencer. The only reason I'm not arresting you right now is because you helped Abby. Now get gone. Once the brass hears about this, I'll be ordered to bring you in."
Eliot and Gibbs shared a long look. Eliot saluted, "Understood, Gunny."
Eliot walked over and stopped infront of Abby, he raised her hand to his lips and kissed it, "Pleasure busting heads with you, Miss Abby."
Eliot turned right at the head of the alley and was gone.

And out of curiosity, I just looked on the Oracle of Kevin Bacon and Mark Harmon has a Bacon Number of 2! Gasp! He needs to be in something with Kevin Bacon pronto!
Checking the others:
Bacon # of 1
JS (Fornell)
Bacon # of 2
MH (Gibbs)
PP (Abby)
MW (Tony)
SM (McGee)
LH (Jenny)
DM (Ducky)
SA (Kate)
Bacon # of 3
CdP (Ziva)
SM (Cynthia Sumner)
All the others I checked had a Bacon # of 2...
:-)
Great story, but I wanted to know the rest of the stories that were hinted at!
What can I say, I'm a crossover addict. *g*
I had to beat the bunnies into submission. I'm trying to get out some longer plot stories and the little bunnies won't let me. :-)
Hee!
You are providing bunny fodder! Stay back!!!
