Summary: Jack enlists a little help with getting Gibbs and Tony to take a break...
Leroy told me you had a bad experience with some misplaced trust. Hope this doesn't turn away from all us old men out there with good intentions. At least the bastard will get what's coming to him.
If Leroy ever drops the ball on keeping an eye on you, you're welcome to call me any time. Not only will I take care of the problem, but I'll give Leroy a piece of my mind.
Speaking of Leroy, I've been meaning to ask you something. How are things really between my boy and Tony? From their letters, I can tell things are a little strained, but I'm not sure why. Is there something they ain't telling me?
I've been trying to talk them into taking time off. Tony seems receptive to the idea, but Leroy won't budge. Is that something you can help out with? I'm even willing to send you some of that caffeinated drink you grew attached to while you were here.
Give those boys a hug for me…
PS: I sent you some of that drink even if you can't help out.
Abby too? Whatever was in those drinks you sent had her bouncing off the walls in her lab. More than usual. She also keeps shooting looks at DiNozzo and me. What exactly did you say to her?
If you were here, I'd hug you! These drinks are great and I think I'll have to set up some kind of shipment process with you so I can get them on a regular basis. Have you ever thought of going online? Timmy and I could put together a wicked site for you. People go for the nostalgia feel and you are definitely nostalgia. Not that you are 'old' nostalgia. It's just that your store is old. Well, not old-old, but it's old-timey. You know, not like the box stores. And there's nothing wrong with that. Maybe I'll just shut up now.
Tony and Gibbs! I'll talk about them. They're both stubborn mules. You probably already know that about Gibbs, because he is your son and you probably watched him become stubborn. I bet he was always getting in trouble with you, wasn't he? I can't picture Gibbs as anything other than Gibbs. I bet you can tell some stories about him.
Tony. Tony's Tony. We all love him, but it doesn't take much to see how much he was messed up as a kid. Well, actually not everyone sees it. Kate kinda did. Kate was one of the team by the way. She was killed a few years back. While she was standing right next to Tony and the boss man. It wasn't a good time. She got Tony some of the time. Ziva thinks she does, but she really doesn't. She has her own set of daddy issues. And Timmy had the good life with normal parents and a normal sister (aside from the cheeseless pizza with pickles, Tabasco and peanut butter), so he doesn't really get it.
Tony never really had family until we got him. I think we scare him sometimes. And I know he's afraid he'll run Gibbs off. And I think Gibbs is afraid Tony will run off. So they both walk on eggshells around each other.
I'll work on getting them away. Maybe I'll drag them myself and then disappear after a day. If I work it right, they can't say no to me.
Keep the drinks coming Papa Gibbs!
Sorry it's been awhile since I wrote. Work's been busy and there's something going on with Ziva that I just can't put my finger on. There's this guy from back home I think she hooked up with when the team was split up last summer. Only I think there's more to the hook up than just a hook up. Her father probably has a hand in any guy that she dates, whether she knows it or not.
Jethro just left for LA with McGee. And… I've got this bad feeling that something's going to happen. I don't get gut feelings the way Gibbs does, but when I do I try to listen to them. I'm not sure if it's something in LA or something closer to home that's going to happen, but it has me on edge.
Damn. Didn't mean to make this sound like something bad would go down. Don't worry about us. We also come out on top. NCIS = 10, Bad Guys = 0.
Oh, Abby mentioned something to me about taking a group trip. You know anything about that?
I got the boss to agree to taking some time off in a few weeks! I kind of blackmailed him, but it worked! So you better be ready to be invaded…
Can't write much more. Tony's got me looking up some stuff and Gibbs is in LA and it's work, work, work. But I'll get the guys there soon!
Jack smiled as he pulled the envelopes from the mailbox. There was one from Leroy, one from Tony and two from Abby. He'd have to send the girl more drinks if she was going to write him like that. He'd been lonely for so long, that suddenly having a family again was a heady experience.
He sat down with a beer and read through the letters, alternately frowning and smiling at the content. When he read Abby's last words, he began mentally noting everything he needed to do before they arrived at the house. Of course, he'd need to find out when to expect them before he got too carried away.
He was just reaching for some paper to reply with when the phone rang. Glancing at the time, he wondered who could be calling so late.
He answered just before the machine could pick it up. "This is Jack."
The solemn voice of his son came through the speaker, "Tony's been hurt."
