Subject: How did I miss it?

Dear Sis,

I just learned something about my characters that I never thought of before and I’m not sure what to think or how to take it. I was told by a few people very knowledgeable on my characters that Tibbs and Tommy are in a secret relationship that they keep quiet from everyone else. Well, everyone except Amy and Birdy.

I wrote them, but I never thought about how I wrote them. I just… well, you know. And all I can see now is the moments between Tibbs and Tommy and how there has to be something going on between them; more than just boss and subordinate.

I don’t see how I missed it. Now I can’t see them any other way and if I tried to write them in a relationship, well… Not only would it ostracize some of my readers, but I know a few people wouldn't be happy if I wrote that.

I just… I guess I’m okay with it being there, but I just want to know why I never saw it.

Enough of that… How’s Europe?

Mom and Dad keep asking me to use my pull as a federal agent to check up on you. So far I’ve convinced them you’re doing just fine.

Since you aren’t going to be around for the 4th, I decided to skip the family picnic too. Tony invited everyone (Gibbs, Ducky, Abby and Jimmy) to some kind of a picnic / fireworks display he knows about. He claims it is some kind of team building thing, but I think him and the boss have plans. We’re supposed to get a new agent on Monday, so we’ll have four days with whoever it is before the holiday. I think they want to do an ‘evaluation’ of the new guy without the new guy around to hear it.

Sometimes makes me wish Kate was still alive and then we never would have had some of the problems we’ve had.

Well, I've got a game scheduled in a few minutes so I guess I'll talk to you later. Oh, Mom was asking about some pictures. Said you hadn't uploaded anything to Facebook lately, so make sure you do that so she'll stop bugging me to bug you.

Stay safe,

Tell Mom to calm down. I can't get on the internet all the time over here like I can at home. Consider this payback for what I had to listen to when you went for your training at FLETC. It was all, "Tim's learning to shoot a gun. What if he gets hurt? Why couldn't he take that computer job he was offered?"

Europe is a blast! Don't tell Mom and Dad, but I'm thinking about extending my stay. I've been talking with the exchange program guidance counselors and they think it would be a great idea for me and I could really improve on my language skills while over here.

I traveled through a town in Austria the other day. Took the attached picture. Thought you might like it. Or maybe show it to Tony. I think he would get a kick out of it.

And how could you not know that about Tommy and Tibbs. It's so obvious Tim. Haven't you looked at your fan sites any? There're posts with people talking about how Tommy and Tibbs were meant for each other. How they are different on the outside, but when you look beyond that, they are so similar. I was surprised your co-workers hadn't killed you already after I read the first book.

There's fan sites where people are writing fanfiction of your characters. You know that right? Well, I've seen plenty of Tibbs and Tommy stories posted. So they are lots of people clueing in on it.

You should really think about a way to work it in to your books. Might increase sales if you did.

Think about it…

"Abby! Why are you reading my emails?" McGee halfway shouted as he made his way back to his computer where he had left Abby sitting for just a minute. She had shown up at his apartment ten minutes earlier and he hadn't figured out why. However, before he could question her further, she was next to him and had punched him in the arm.

"Ow! What was that for?" he squeaked out as he brought his other hand up to rub at the spot on his arm.

"You know darn well what it was for Tim. How could you betray their trust like that? I all but told Tony you would be okay with it and then you went and blabbed it to your sister first chance you got. It doesn't take an MIT degree to read between the 'Tibbs' and 'Tommy,' Timmy."

As Abby stood there, McGee could only look on in confusion. He couldn't understand what she was talking about and was about to say so when the buzzer on his door sounded in conjunction with someone rapping the 'Shave and a Haircut' tune on the door.

Then a muffled, "Open the door, Probie!" came through the door and Abby glanced at the computer and back to the door and then at McGee.

"Oops," Abby said softly and McGee left her standing by the computer with a reddening face as he walked over to open the door.

"What do you want Tony?" he asked as the door opened. Then he paused as he saw not only Tony but also Gibbs standing outside his door. "Boss?"

"We need to talk," Tony said as he moved pass McGee and into his apartment. McGee just stood aside as Gibbs followed and he closed the door feeling like everything he thought he knew was about to be turned upside down.

Note: For those wondering about the picture Sarah sent Tim, I have it posted below. I took that picture in Bregenz, Austria (where I lived for 5 weeks back in 2002). I walked underneath that thing more than once every day and it was very creepy at night. Trust me.

Ha! Love the fanfic slash bit. Poor McGee is so clueless at times, it's awesome. I love this chapter, and all the other chapters in this series. Your characterization is tops, and this from someone who normally avoids Gibbs/Tony because of the rampant ability to go OOC.

I look forward to more!
Aug. 1st, 2009 03:32 am (UTC)
Hee! Glad you are reading even if Gibbs/DiNozzo isn't your usual thing. Yeah, there is a lot of OOC out there for them, but there's also some good ones that keep them in character. Characterization is the one thing I always try to do most when writing any of them. (it's why I avoid writing characters like Buffy, Ziva and Willow for the most part actually, because I don't feel like I 'get' them.)

And yeah... McGee can be clueless. It was fun having him angst over his characters being in a relationship. Little does he know!

Aug. 1st, 2009 03:19 am (UTC)
*snorts* Poor Tim... I hope he manages to contain the 'this can't be happening *again*' response enough that he doesn't have to explain to Gibbs that he isn't freaking out because he has a problem with it! Explaining fanfic to Gibbs? That should be fun!

Ok, I have to ask... what the heck is that thing? Some kind of weird gargoyle?

Aug. 1st, 2009 03:36 am (UTC)
Hee! Gibbs and fanfic! Oh the horrors! I think McGee will spend the rest of the night trolling the internet for Tibbs/Tommy stories. ;-)

And we never figured out what the heck that thing was. It hung in the archway to the old city and I walked under it all the time. Here's the archway and the 2nd one is the steps to the archway:

That was lovely! I like how Tim and his sister keep each other sane with their parents. My brother and I do the same, so it's awesomeness.

I... honestly, I'm very annoyed at Abby for reading someone else e-mail. It's when things like that happen (in the show and in fanfiction) that make me not like her very much.

I can't wait to see what happens next!

And is that a Goblin Shark?

Thanks for sharing, happy writing, and update soon please!

Tabee :)
Aug. 1st, 2009 03:41 am (UTC)
Huh... it looks like it could be a relative to the goblin shark. I'm not sure what it actually was supposed to be. I just know it was creepy to walk under.

I didn't put it in there, but Abby wasn't clicking through things to find the email. McGee had left the Reply up on his computer when she came in and he left the room for a minute and Abby had turned to use the computer while he was gone and there it was.... She still read it, but at least she wasn't deliberately looking through his email inbox. :-)

All the characters invade privacy on that show at some point in time or other in regards to the others on the team... It runs rampant among them...

Glad you are enjoying!

I adore this episode of M*A*S*H and this fic is brilliant! I love this series, I hope you have more planned.... Poor Timmy, his world is indeed about to be turned upside down...
Aug. 1st, 2009 04:19 am (UTC)
I know I've probably seen the ep, but I can't recall it off the top of my head.

I definitely have more planned. And I know how I plan to end it, but I have quite a bit to do before I get there.
Aug. 1st, 2009 04:22 am (UTC)
HA! LOVE it!!! When I wrote my Gemcity thing for the aborted first round of LFWS, I was *so* going with the slash angle. :-) It's just so *obvious*! :-) Poor McGee. He's so bad at reading people. :-)
Aug. 1st, 2009 04:23 am (UTC)

I still need to do my "Tony writes slash fanfiction" fic that I've been pondering for a while.

You have no idea McGee, you have no idea. God I really do love this series and the bit with Abby at the end? Priceless. Great job on another fantastic piece of work. If I could marry your words I just might. If I didn't have to sign the prenup anyhow. =D Can't wait for the next installment!
Aug. 3rd, 2009 03:17 am (UTC)
McGee is clueless... poor guy. :-)

And hee! on the prenup... :-)

It is ugly and very creepy to walk under at night... trust me...

I figured McGee has at least one or two friends outside of NCIS that like his books and let him talk characters with them.... :-)
Aug. 1st, 2009 08:46 am (UTC)
What can I say that the others haven't already said? Agree Sarah is a fellow slasher, and infinitely brighter than McGee.
Like the idea of Tony being a slashfiction writer, but perhaps better still Ducky or Jackson :-))
Aug. 3rd, 2009 03:19 am (UTC)
Sarah as a slasher... hee!

I really want to play with fanfiction from McGee's book one of these days....
Aug. 1st, 2009 09:35 am (UTC)
LOL! I loved this little exchange. Now I want to see the conversation between Tim, Tony and Gibbs!
Aug. 3rd, 2009 03:20 am (UTC)

Yay! I'm sure the conversation will be a doozy.

and yay for liking it!

Very cool, thanks.
That thing in the picture is very weird.
Aug. 3rd, 2009 03:21 am (UTC)

And yes... very weird looking thing.
Aug. 1st, 2009 05:02 pm (UTC)
haha, loved that :) mixing real life, fanfiction and showfiction and any fiction together... now I have a knot in my brain LOL
Aug. 3rd, 2009 03:21 am (UTC)

sorry for the mixed up brain. :-)
Aug. 2nd, 2009 01:36 pm (UTC)
Ok, don't get me wrong, I liked it, but I'm a little confused.
Either Abby told Tim without Tony and Gibbs knowing and they came to tell him at the end, or Tony and Gibbs have something entirely different to say and that would mean that you left us with a cliffhanger, which would so not be nice!!!
Aug. 2nd, 2009 04:26 pm (UTC)
That's okay.... what happened was this...

A few of Tim's friends (we don't know who) clued him in on Tibbs and Tommy being in a relationship. Tim starts angsting over the fact that he never realized his characters he created could be in a relationship but after being told about it and why, he could see it clearly.

Tim emails Sarah with his dilemma about seeing his characters in a relationship and while the relationship doesn't bother him, he doesn't know if he should write it that way or not. Plus, he know if he wrote Tibbs and Tommy in a relationship, that Gibbs and Tony would kill him.

Sarah emails back saying it was obvious and why didn't he know. And also there's Tibbs/Tommy fanfiction out there, so a lot of people see it.

Abby shows up. Tim left his sister's email replay up on the computer and stepped out of the room, leaving Abby there alone. Abby saw the emails and started to read. She had come over because she thought that Tony and Gibbs had already been by to tell Tim and she wanted to see how he was doing.

When she read the emails, she mistook the conversation about Tibbs and Tommy to be Tim really talking about Gibbs and Tony and their relationship. Just 'covering' it up with Tibbs and Tommy. She gets mad because she thinks he's blabbing about it just after finding out.

She confronts Tim. Tim is confused. Then Abby realizes her mistake when Gibbs and Tony show up at the door.

Did that help? And I think I just retyped the whole thing... LoL

And Where is THE Talk?
And then you haven't given us the talk..... WAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

Sorry; I'm not feeling well and I want smut and angst and stories by my favorite authors.

cough, couch, hack.

Poor Tim; so beautifully clueless
Aug. 13th, 2009 04:06 am (UTC)
I am really enjoying this series, especially the moments with Gibbs's dad.

And yes, the picture is creepy as hell. what is it? Looks like a herbivore from the teeth, and the proboscis is almost elephantine looking. (I look at Ice Age fossils waay too much...)
