hawk_soaring Asked Me...
1. What is your favorite fandom/ pairing and why?
Currently, my favorite fandom is NCIS. I found NCIS in the summer of 2007 and binge watched all the eps to the current season at the time. Then I binge watched them again (in order this time) with my roomie to hook him. After I was caught up, I spent several months delving into fanfiction. My favorite character is Tony DiNozzo. Michael Weatherly was the reason I started watching initially because I had binge watched Dark Angel and wanted more MW. So I focused on Tony fics. I honestly can't remember who I read first, but I somehow came across Gibbs/DiNozzo slash stories. I think I read almost all the web has to offer (I know I'm missing some, but I made a good dent in them), including the good, the bad and the ugly. I gave them all a shot. And with the most recent episode of NCIS (07x12 Flesh and Blood), my love for both NCIS and Gibbs/DiNozzo has reignited!
2. What is your all-time favorite movie?
This is a tough one. I love many movies for many different reasons. It's hard to narrow it down. However, for a long time I would have flat out answered Star Wars (the originals). Now, I don't think that is true anymore. I honestly can't think of a movie that I would say is my all-time favorite. *is puzzled* I haven't been watching movies as much as I used to. Perhaps that has something to do with it. *wonders off to think on that*
3. If you had two days (all expenses covered by a mysterious benefactor) and no obligations, where would go and what would you do?
Wow. Well... First I would demand to know if I was welcome to have anyone else with me. If not allowed and it had to be spent for just myself... God... Um... *thinks hard* Okay... I'd hop a plane (carefully so as not to arouse the suspicion of airport security) and go to Disney World. Yes, Disney World. If I had more than two days, I'd travel to Europe or Australia, but with two days, I wouldn't have enough time to get it all in. But Disney World, I could manage. And I would buy the hell out of some souvenirs. *nods* Who wants to go with me if the mysterious benefactor allows it?
4. Art/ drawing/ manips: How did you get interested and what is your favorite medium?
I've been interested in art since I was young, young. I went through very small and poor quality public school system. However, there was a shining light in the art teacher. Her name was Mrs. Murry and there was a saying that everyone had, "Mrs. Murry in a Hurry." She taught us not only drawing and such, but she taught us art history and theory. Yes, starting back in like first grade I was learning about Renaissance and the like. She had the classroom set up as tables and 4-5 of us would be at each table. Then, each table represented a time period in art history. Then, every few weeks, a different table would be the focus so we could learn about that time period. She also had songs that went with each time period, and yes, I still remember several of them and I even would recite them in my college art history classes.
Renaissance means rebirth of Greek and Roman thought
Knowledge, wisdom and beauty were what these people sought
Leonardo da Vinci's Mona Lisa
Michaelangelo's Pieta and David
Leonardo da Vinci's Last Supper
And the ceiling Michaelangelo did...
The Renaisannnnnnce! [hand flare]
Baroque followed Renaissance
1600s was the time
Caravaggio's shocking paintings were realistic and sublime
And let's not forget dear Rembrandt
Master of shadow and light
With their brush in motion
Baroque was at its height!
Yeah! [hand flare]
Monochromatic means just one
And Primary: Red, Blue and Yellerrrr!
And that's just a few of them. I used these in art history classes through college, where I majored in Art (emphasis in Graphic Design). My mom was always shocked that when we were kids and we were visiting Washington DC, my sister and I wanted to see the art museum. I would have been around 2nd grade age while my sister was in 6th. And we got there and we started pointing and naming artists by site and talking about the theories behind the paintings and different styles. My mom said the older people milling around were looking at us in shock. They probably thought we were being sent to some private art focused school and not a country backwards public school. I had Mrs. Murry from first through sixth grade. Then, my senior year of high school, they needed a teacher for the high school and middle school, so she stepped up and did that too. I was the only person taking the upper level of art and I didn't have a block to fit it in in my schedule officially, but we worked it out where I set in with her 7th grade class and helped teach them while I worked on my own stuff.
Then! Mrs. Murry also taught an art appreciation class at the local community college. I had a scholarship to take classes there while I was in high school (had 28 credit hours when I graduated high school). So I took her college course. I had her for grade school, high school and one college class. Yeah, I loved this teacher.
My senior year of high school was a debate. I was trying to decide between going into Geology or Art. It was a very tough decision, but I finally chose art. I received a scholarship for tuition (due to my GPA/ACT) and then I received an extra art scholarship after submitting my portfolio. So off I went to get a degree in art. I officially have a Bachelor of Science, Area in Art, Emphasis in Graphic Design. I started learning computer programs on a Mac (back in the OS 9 days). I mainly learned print design, but I took one web design class. Then I got hired right out of college as a web designer and I'm still at that company almost seven years later.
For manips, I started doing those as a way to improve my abilities at work. I know I did others before hand, but it really started with Supernatural. I began doing Supernatural crossover manips. Many, many fandoms were covered, even Mary Poppins! You can find this collection that is over 100 chapters long here: Supernaturally Twisted
Overall, I think I will go with working with existing graphics in Photoshop is my favorite way to go. I also enjoy creating logos as you can see in my LJ header where I created my own semi-font for my name using Illustrator. However, I do like picking up a pencil now and then and drawing. Faces are speciality in pencil (male more than female). And, yay... this made me say a lot. Hopefully I haven't bored you.
5. Cash or credit?
Debit? I tend to not carry cash around with me. I have a tendency to spend money quicker if I have cash. I don't know why, but I do. So I mainly stick to using my debit card that goes straight from my checking account. And I'm trying to be good and not use my credit cards for the time being. Last time I used them was October when I was in Florida with azraelz_angel and avamclean
