The Bathroom Window Debate...

So, our bathroom is still a work in progress (since January!!) but is down to mainly painting, new shower curtain and a few little things here and there.

The roomie and I watch a lot of HGTV and saw a house on Property Virgins with a black/white bathroom with similar tile work that had an all black window. This led to many scenarios being generated after a post or two on Facebook. So I thought I would carry the debate on over here too.

I have the original image, plus the 3 scenarios that incorporate black.

Poll #1839002 Bathroom Window Paint Job

Which Scenario Works Best?

Original - All White Frame
#01 - All Black Frame
#02 - Black Frame Base
#03 - Black Sill (the part that sticks out)
Other - I'll Tell You All About It...

I find black very annoying and harder to keep clean than white and if you just have a line or base of it and it's not kept spotless it'll show the dirt that much more

With my obsessive compulsive cleaning roommate the cleanliness won't be an issue. He has this 'love to clean, especially bathrooms' mentality that I just don't get. He actually volunteers for it at the jobs he works (restaurants, Walgreens, GAP...) and those are public... *shudders*

oh my god. you are so lucky!!! Well, never mind then!

He just can't do laundry... it's a mystery I haven't solved after 7.5 years...

But can he at least fold and/or put away laundry?

Actually, that's the worst part for him. I'm always finding stuff still in the dryer or, on occasion, wet stuff that never made it to the dryer and requires re-washing.

oh dear, the still in the washer issue. Come across that so so so many times.

I voted for all black because it appears to give the room the illusion of more depth in the pictures.

Guess it depends on what you're going for. White helps make the room look brighter and larger, while the full black makes a bold statement that you want it to be different. I think I like the subtler nature of the black sill the most, though as donutsweeper said, harder to keep clean for people who don't like cleaning.

I like the white frame better. (Maybe replace the blinds with black blinds or curtains.) Well, actually, I really like the black sill, but find the fact that it does not line up with the line of black tiles really distracting. My second choice would be the black frame.

On a side note, have you thought about adding crown molding? Wait... *looks more closely at the picture* There is crown molding up there, isn't there? I would paint that black as well, I think.

To me, all of it black is too much, but just the base isn't enough. I do like just the base best of the options you presented, but I'd be tempted to paint the bar on the blinds black, too (or something similar that only gives just another little hint of black).

OK - I vote for the black frame plus black blinds - which may not be possible. I don't care for the smaller stripes of black - they seem unrelated to the other black line. Looks really nice tho, and could Roomy come over to my house and clean our bathrooms? I'll make martinis.

I really love the all black - I just thin k it sets off a really nice contrast. xxx

I'd go with the black sill for the simple fact that black is a devil to keep clean (even if roomie will volunteer to do it, and can I borrow him, please?!). I think the black frame is too much, makes the whole room crowded somehow. I think the black base would work though. :)

Seconding the comment not liking the black highlights that don't line up with the black tile. I like the dramatic statement of the black frame, but the focus point on the far wall might make the room look (more) long and narrow. If that's an effect you are trying to avoid, then the current white frame is your best choice.

I really like just the black sill. I love the fact that it is off center from the black tile row. Adds a more dramatic feel. I would probably go with some black blinds to add effect. Maybe even paint the very top of the sill too!
