Fics: Find Me & Worship vs. Faith (NCIS)

Summary: He has faith that Gibbs will always find him, no matter what.

He sat in the darkness and strained his ears for any sound beyond the dripping of water against the concrete surfaces that surrounded him. He wasn’t sure how long he had been there, but his body was telling him that it had been more than a day. It had been more than a day since he had any food or water that wasn’t tainted with God knows what. It had been more than a day since he had seen any source of light, since he had even seen anything other than the inky blackness that surrounded him.

He could walk around the small room but he had not stumbled over anything or found anything other than the four concrete walls he had felt every inch of the moment he woke up in that place. He had stretched his hands up as far as he could reach in hopes of touching a ceiling or finding an exit to his prison.

Now, at least a day later, he only had one thing left to keep him going; faith, faith that Gibbs would find him just like he always did. Every time he went missing, the former Marine would find him. It was not an option in his mind; it kept him from going insane in the darkness. Gibbs would come and he would be free of the dark prison.

So he sat quietly, listening for any sounds that would indicate his boss was almost there. He tried to pick up sounds of footsteps, voices, anything that would indicate the presence of another human being. He told himself that his faith would not waiver; that Gibbs would come for him. So, he repeated his mantra over and over just to hear his own voice. “Gibbs will come for me. Gibbs will find me.”

Summary: Ziva wonders why Tony worships Gibbs.

“Why do you worship him so much?”

Tony glanced up sharply at Ziva after she asked the question. “What? Worship who?”

“Gibbs. You, how do they say, ‘worship the mound he walks on’.”

“Ground,” Tony automatically corrected. “And I don’t worship Gibbs.”

“You try to act like him when he is not around. You do anything he asks you to without question. You have worked for him longer than you have with anyone else. That leads one to believe that you worship him.”

Tony leaned back in his chair and looked hard at Ziva. “There’s a difference between worship and how I treat Gibbs, Ziva,” he said quietly. “Worship would mean that I treat him like a God and Gibbs is nowhere close to being a God. Now faith, that’s a different story. Faith means I have complete trust in something. I have faith that Gibbs will have my back. I have faith that Gibbs will have the answers we need on a case. I have faith that Gibbs will stop me from doing something stupid even if I think it’s the right thing to do. So, do I worship Gibbs? No. But I have faith in him and that’s why I would follow him to hell or back even if he didn’t ask me to.”

Ziva regarded Tony silently for a few moments before responding. “Having that much faith in someone is a weakness.”

Tony smiled as thoughts of Star Wars quotes sprang to mind. “But having the overconfidence to not have faith in anyone is even worse. You gotta have faith in something, Zee-va.”

“Just make sure it’s not DiNozzo,” Gibbs said as he walked around the corner with a coffee cup in hand. “He’d walk you off a cliff while you’re not looking.”

“Love yah too, Boss.”
