Summary: Millard Fuller said, "It's not your blue blood, your pedigree or your college degree. It's what you do with your life that counts."
Blue. I went from pro-sport potential to an officer in blue. But when I got the uniform, it turned out to be black instead. My mind had always tied blue with police officers. I saw my first police officer at the age of seven when our housekeeper filed a complaint. I didn’t understand then why my father passed the man money and offered him a drink. If that was my father’s way of keeping me under his thumb, he failed. As I donned my black uniform, I laughed at the irony of Anthony DiNozzo Senior’s son becoming a blue-collar worker.
Blue. I traveled from precinct to precinct and city to city, but never got a blue uniform anywhere. Then, just as I was making plans to throw a dart and pick my next destination, a pair of hard blue eyes showed up to take over my investigation. At first I tried to go toe-to-toe with him, but I backed down with just a murmur of, “You’ll need me to solve this thing.” Two days later, when those blue eyes walked into my apartment and told me my ass was his, I looked at the dart in my hand and smiled.
Blue. I once liked blue, but after my stay in the isolation unit in Bethesda, blue was never the same again. As breathing became harder, all I remember were those damn blue lights and an occasional word from Nurse Emma, Dr. Brad, Kate and I think I remember Gibbs ordering me to live. Once I could breath for more than five minutes without coughing, I convinced myself that the Gibbs part was a hallucination brought on by the torturous blue lights. For weeks afterwards, I had nightmares about the blue lights. But they all stopped the day Kate was killed.
Blue. I found more reasons to hate blue when Ziva and I took the undercover assignment. I still wasn’t sure what to make of her, but I more than held up my end of the ruse as we fooled around in bed. But as we sat tied to the chairs and I listened as they did to her what they had done to me, something snapped. After I got her out of the room with some fast thinking, I took every ounce of hatred at ever being hit and, still tied to the chair, turned my captor black and blue.
Blue. Without thought, I dove into the blue water and made my way to the sunken car. It was a miracle that I removed the windshield and freed Maddie. But when Gibbs didn’t follow, my heart sank. I dove a second time to find my boss and once I had him, I vowed to do everything in my power to keep him alive. It was hard to think. “Don’t do this to me, Boss. Come on, don’t do this to me. Don’t make me kiss you, Boss,” I breathed out as I placed my lips over his lifeless blue ones.
